Girl Talk

i think i just don't get it...

here's what i don't get: why is this person popular? i mean, popular to the point that they are paid to be on stage in front of people?

facts:
1. he mixes good music
2. he energizes the crowd

opinions:
1. he is on stimulants, lots of them as it seems
2. not anyone, but a lot of people can do what he does, especially given the equipment
3. during a performance, does he do anything other than head bang?
4. he's a dj, no matter what the screen behind him says
5. i liked/knew 80% of the songs he mixed, the other 20% was fine
6. i found it more interesting to watch the spectacle than partake
6a. i think fischerspooner and girltalk can teach a phd course in self-hype

i saw dj shadow perform (with someone else); they created 'new music' from cutting/taping records on the spot. lp's. masking tape. 2 turntables. it was crazy amazing. this was a bunch of young people bouncing around to popular music mixed together. i call that a work out, not a performance.

I have researched Glory Road – not found in the Grateful Dead archives song list. It is a Government Mule song that was, of course, sung by Warren.(Anyone who doesn’t know – he plays guitar for the Allman Brothers along with Derek Trucks as well as his band, Gov’t Mule, and has done a lot of Phil and Friends tours)

The Beatles song is Tomorrow Never Knows, as follows:

Turn off your mind, relax
and float down stream
It is not dying
It is not dying

Lay down all thought
Surrender to the void
It is shining
It is shining

That you may see
The meaning of within
It is being
It is being

That love is all
And love is everyone
It is knowing
It is knowing

That ignorance and hate
May mourn the dead
It is believing
It is believing

But listen to the
color of your dreams
It is not living
It is not living

Or play the game
existence to the end
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning

It was on Revolver, I think, if not it was Rubber Soul. Anyway, the lyrics are especially interesting when you consider them from a Dead perspective
